Nancy Denise Duich was born near Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 16, 1960. She was the oldest of four kids: Connie, Linda and Mark. She was very maternal early on, as she played a critical role in the raising of her brother and sisters. She later moved to Arizona and married Dan Duich on August 25, 1979. They raised three kids together: Brandy, Candy and Danny. She was a very loving mom. Always attentive, caring, understanding and a bit of a neat freak. Which, as you can imagine, is very difficult with three kids and a bear of a husband. As was her nature, she was often a mom to many neighborhood kids. Always willing to provide them with what they might be lacking at home. Be it food, clothes or just a mother figure to look up to, which we all did.
My mom was a believer in Christ. Not necessarily a church goer, but she always had him in her heart. You could tell by how she would see the good in people, even when most could not. She was an amazing cook. Her homemade cinnamon rolls and lasagna are stuff of legend. She loved Sci-Fi shows and Westerns. Which is probably where I get my love for them as well. We would watch the old Lost in Space show, followed up by Bonanza and then a splash of Happy Days. The Fonze had nothing on my mom. She was a big fan of Tom Petty and Sammy Kershaw. She was certainly a little bit of Country and Rock-N-Roll.
My mom taught me many things like sewing, cooking and how to make nurse’s corners on my bed. But most of all, she taught me to love, fully. Her heart was bigger than anyone I have ever known. She wouldn’t want us to mourn her loss. She would want us to turn that sadness into love for each other. And for us to clean our rooms. Yeah, definitely clean our rooms. LOVE YOU MA.
