Tucson

Joane Eardley Janega, born on February 11, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia, to Reese and Frances Eardley, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, USAF Lt. Col. Victor Alexander Janega.

Joane is survived by her children: son, Steven Janega, and daughters, Rebecca Janega and Leslie Janega. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her four grandchildren: Kelly Clark, Lennaya Janega Lamote, Viktor Janega, and Jozef Janega, as well as her great-grandchildren: Conner Clark, Mason Clark, Lincoln Janega, Harrison Lamote, and Julliette Lamote.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia, Joane attended William & Mary College. She married Victor Janega on June 8, 1951, and as an Air Force wife, she moved her family to various locations, including Biloxi, Mississippi, Germany, Sacramento, California, Aurora, Colorado, Virginia, Spain, Hawaii, and Tucson.

Joane was an exceptional Duplicate Bridge player, achieving Life Master status and attending numerous National Tournaments. She cherished her strong relationship with her grandchildren, and they fondly recall her as a loving and vibrant presence in their lives.

“She was just a cool grandma to have. I see so many people who have a grandma that's kind of a chore to talk to, but not ours!” one grandchild shared. Another fondly remembers, “Grandma was not like most grandparents. She was always a joy to talk to and had a great sense of humor. Grandma was like an old friend in that we could pick up right where we left off no matter how much time had passed between our conversations.” A third grandchild reflects, “Grandma was my favorite Grandma ever and I loved talking college hoops with her.”

A memorial service will be held at a future date to honor her life and legacy.
