Donna Kay Willie, better known to many as Mama Donna, died October 3, 2024 in Tucson, Arizona. She was born November 5, 1940 in Coos Bay, Oregon but grew up in Cobalt and Challis, Idaho. On April 5, 1961 Donna married Dale Rodney Willie in Malad, Idaho.
Donna was a true "mountain girl". She grew up in nature and loved everything about it. She went to college for archeology but ended up being a jack of all trades. She worked as a business operator, bookkeeper, skinner (in which she skinned animals for hunters), she herself was also a hunter, and an arctic CAT snowmobile racer. She won the Women's Western 340 Oval Track Race three times. She was the champion in 1973, 1974 and 1975 and was labeled as an Arctic Cat Factory Racer. Donna also worked with horses doing hoof care and training for them. She loved to ride but taught others to ride as well.
Mama Donna was a believer that right is right, wrong is wrong and honesty is always the best policy. She was tough minded, strong and held to her beliefs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gladys Wells; older brother, Lee Wells; her youngest son, Chet Willie and her beloved husband, Dale Willie.
Donna is survived by her son, Dale Albert Willie; step-son, Kelly Willie and step-daughter, Susan Newbold; three grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and eighteen step-great grandchildren.
